And it puts a spotlight on the stupid decisions the teens make that puts everybody in jeopardy. Unfortunately, the drawback of having the first and third acts be non-stop action, the middle arc drags and feels like a slog. The budget was clearly increased significantly so we get many more of those scenes. In fact every scene that features an encounter with the "sound-monsters" is gripping and intense. The opening sequence once the "apocalypse" begins is just fantastic. I normally would talk about "the experience of WATCHING a movie," but since I've started reviewing actively and losing my hearing, it's become the experience as a WHOLE - in my ability to be both immersed and entertained.Īnd boy was this entertaining.
